Not very happy with this one. He came out a bit scrawnier than I intended and none of the details really got to a point that I would call finished. I think that this must have been an off day for me.
This is another study in translucency. This time I painted some kind of stone tile (marble?) that was back lit to see how the interior structure of the stone affected the light. I like the way this one came out, you can see the variations beneath the surface and see how the light moves throughout the whole stone. All in all this came out pretty good and I'm happy with this one.

I like the pose I did here. It has some movement to it and while it could use some more finish in some areas I don't see any glaring mistakes. The only thing that I'm not happy with is the hair it looks like it's dreadlocks, I should have used a different brush for the hair.
Another subsurface scattering study. I think that this is a marble statue that's been back lit. I like the way this one came out. Getting some of the colors right was a challenge because of the way that they change as the marble gets thicker.

My goal with this pose was to focus on the back and the legs. I think that those two things came out good, the shadows on the back are a bit heavy and the knees need some work but overall not bad. The forearm has some issues as does the shoulder where it meets the neck. Overall not bad even if there are some issues.
Another reflected light study, it's less pronounced in this study than it is in the last study but it's there. The trick with this one was to get the reflected light on the fruit without having it look like there was a second light source. With the orange I succeeded with the pear I think that I made the light a bit to strong. I think that it still passes off as reflected light but could be mistaken for a highlight or something. As usual this took an hour to do.

While overall I like this drawing I think it has some minor issues. The ankles seem to be too thin, that could be the model but it has been a problem that I've been noticing in my figures lately. I also feel like there are some issues with the shoulders and neck but I'm not able to pin down exactly what. On a more positive note I think that the shadows in this drawing are good and the cloth looks nice even if it's unfinished.
It's a teapot and another ambient occlusion study. Again this isn't the most exciting subject to cover but even something basic like this is valuable practice.

I love the pose here, it's very theatrical. I kind of imagine he's giving some sort of great Shakespearean speech. A lot of the muscles and anatomy on this are well defined even though the drawing itself isn't quite as finished as I would have liked. If I had had more time I would have spent it on the face and given him a ground shadow to really give him the feeling of standing on something rather than floating in a grey space.
Another translucency study this time using bat wings. This was difficult because of all the little veins that are in the wings and the way that they interact with the light. There these little lines that are just slightly less translucent than the skin around them so it took me a minute to figure out how to paint them. Using an overlay layer and darker tone seemed to work pretty good. As usual this took an hour.

I got an Atlas like pose for my final pose this time and I think I came out pretty good. Some of the muscles on the back aren't as clearly defined as I would like and was barely able to get to the legs. But I think that the arms and shoulders came out pretty good.
A Subsurface scattering study done in about an hour. I think it came out good, the areas around the fingers and the palm both came out good with the light coming through the skin. I think that the whole study came across successfully.

I think that this final pose is a bit heavy on the contrast but I think that it still works. The light parts really help to define the figure but some of the details get lost in the shadow.
Another reflected light study this time focusing on a single subject. I was nice that this orange was placed in a white space it really allowed me to see just how far reflected light can go. Even the back wall gets a bit of the  orange reflected light. I learned a lot from this hour long study.
