Gestures and Sunstone copies.
Combining Native american fashion and Roman Catholic fashion. The one on the middle is my favorite, it combines the two pretty evenly and has a nice silhouette.

Gestures and Sunstone copies.
Continuing with some of the fashion stuff. Here I tried to create a costume that combined elements of Indian and Arabian fashion. I like how they all came out but if pressed I would have to say the the one on the far right is my favorite. It's a nice combination of practical and elegant which is what I was going for.

Back to doing some gestures. I'm doing seven clothed figures and seven nude figures. I'm continuing with the Sunstone copies and should be done in a few weeks.
A sketch of my Uncle done at my grandpas memorial a couple of weeks ago. Also the main character from my comic receiving an ancient mystical power.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Tilda Swinton and Charles Dance. I really like both of these actors and they both have very distinctive features.
The main characters dad. Took some inspiration from Captain Sisko from Star Trek: DS9. Also some possible monsters.

A couple of characters from Battlestar Galactica and Sunstone copies.
Some stuff from the bus and a redesign of my main character. Now I've made her a medic and based her on the actress Naomie Harris who played Moneypenny in the movie Skyfall. The symbol in the center of the page is sort of like the red cross for this world. I used medical symbols from ancient Rome and Native Americans to some up with this.

Max and Han from 2 Broke Girls came out okay. Also Sunstone copies.
The main character from my comic. This is where I kind of defined the character as a medic and some doodles from the bus and the coffee shop.

More Sherlock characters and more Sunstone copies.
Another character from my comic. This was going to be the main character but after some rewrites this character has moved into a supporting character role and had a major overhaul as far as what she looks like but I'll get to that later.

Saturday, November 23, 2013

A character from the TV show Eureka and the villain from the first episode of Sherlock. The sherlock guy came out good but the other one came out kind of wonky. And as usual Sunstone copies.
Another character that got abandoned. She was going to be a manipulative ambassador who would use the main character for her own selfish reasons. She was cut because I felt like I had to many characters so I decided to cut out all but the essential three characters. I do like her design so she might show up somewhere eventually.

Another Sucker Punch character and one of the characters from the movie The Man From Earth. If you haven't seen it do so as soon as possible. It's a great movie that reminds me quite a bit of 12 Angry Men, both are dialogue heavy, with the characters staying in mostly one room the entire time. I'll stop now before I go on a rant about how much I love that movie. And as always Sunstone copies.
So I'm working on a comic and this guy was going to be one of the supporting characters, sort of a body guard type guy. He belonged to a race that had a lot of hair and pointed ears and I used Japanese and Aztec influences on there clothes. Sad part is is that I've cut him from the comic, but the design is still cool.

A couple of people from the movie Suckerpunch, I have mixed feelings about the movie but there are some good people to caricature. Also Sunstone copies.
A troll under a bridge, done mostly during on my break from work.

Daniel Craig as James Bond and the cook from Sucker Punch. And Sunstone copies.
I decided to do some observational drawing and then add stuff to them. I added some cyber-punk stuff to the woman and the car and then some pixies to the tree stump.

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

Gideon from the Scott Pilgrim movie and Moneypenny from Skyfall and Sunstone copies.
A couple of torsos and Dracula's daughter, a little used comic book character from Marvel.

One of the jurors from 12 Angry Men and Ramona. The guy came out good but I'm not happy with how Ramona came out. Also Sunstone copies.
Some very random doodles.

Sunday, November 17, 2013

Harry Potter and McGonagall from the first movie. I don't like these as much as the ones I posted yesterday. But that was one of the things I knew might happen when I started these. Also some Sunstone copies.
Posting another round of sketchbook pages. Here I started to do a layout for a short comic adaptation of Summer Knight. Just below that is the ghoul in her disguise on the left and normal on the right and below that her hand.

Book and Zoe from Firefly. For the most part I like how these came out. Like I've said I'm not really very good with caricatures but I think these came out good. Also Sunstone.
More fashion stuff. I like doing this.

Some faces from Boardwalk Empire and Sunstone copies.
Doing some clothing studies trying to learn something about modern fasion.

Thursday, November 14, 2013

And now for something completely different. I'm going to spent the next couple of weeks doing caricatures or as close as I can get. It's really not my normal thing so this is going to be kind of hit and miss. The first one is Rowan Atkinson from the Blackadder show and the second Is Kenzi from Lost Girl. Also the usual Sunstone copies.
Last female face tutorial. I think that these where valuable and I learned a bunch from redoing these tutorials.

Upper body and Sunstone copies.
This is one of the few times that I will use some of Ctrl+Paints pictures for the assignment. The point of this exercise was to play with scale and proportion.

Legs and Sunstone copies.
Face number 5. I have two more to do after this.

Sunday, November 10, 2013

Upper body and Sunstone copies.
Ctrl+Paint exercise. The goal of this one was to take some old paintings and draw more emphasis to the main subject of the painting. I think some of these actually came out good.

Legs and Sunstone copies.
The fourth in the face tutorial series that I'm working on. I like the hair on this one it took some time but I like it. It reminds me of a southern belle.

Upper body and Sunstone copies.
Another Ctrl+Paint exercise this time studying light and composition. Some of these came out pretty good.

Legs and Sunstone copies.
Another face construction tutorial. I'm about half done with this whole set.

Upper body and Sunstone copies.
I'm not entirely sure what this thing was originally. My ex left it behind when she moved out and I held on to it because it was a good stand for my plastic skull. Any way I turned it into a fountain and an observatory.
