I like the way that the face came out although I'm not pleased that I didn't get the hair done.
A lot of abs and legs on page 13.

I like the way that this pose came out. The muscles all look well defined and nicely rendered. My only complaint is that a lot of this is unfinished.
a lot of hands and legs on page 12.

This came out good. Not great but good.
Lots of jumping and falling on page 11.

Thursday, June 27, 2013

I like the way this one turned out. The light at the back was good and the anatomy turned out good.
Lots of jumping on page 10.

Some foreshortening here. I think that it came out good but the hair gave me some trouble because the hair was dyed blond but was black so it was a bit of a trick.

I focused on the shoulder and the arms. I think that it came out good even if it is a bit desaturated.

So this is my second post for today to make up for last Friday when I didn't post at all and I thought I would do something a little different. It's been a rough week and I've been wondering if I should stick with this art thing, it doesn't seem to be going any where and I felt like I wasn't improving at all. When I feel like that I like to flip through my old sketch books to see just how much I've improved.

This god awful sketch is from just two years ago and it was BY FAR the best thing in all my sketch books for that year (2011). To compare this is what I doing now in my sketch book
This was done a couple of months ago and there is a dramatic leap in quality. So I think that I'll stick with art for at least a couple more years. It's still frustrating as hell to not be getting paid for this but I think that if I continue to improve at this rate in a couple years this will be my job.
So I tried something new with this one and I like the way that it turned out. I don't think I'll use it for everything that I paint because it looks a little soft but I think that it would look with the right subject.
More Hogarth studies.

Sunday, June 23, 2013

This came out way more rough than I would have liked. The pose is good but the rendering is underdeveloped.
Another Hogarth page with a lot of running and jumping.

A quick portrait and I think that it came out good. My only gripe is that it took me an hour to do something this simple. Other than my sloth like speed not bad.
Hogarth is a guy who wrote a bunch of anatomy books that are really good so I've decided to go through all of them in the next few months. I've posted a few of these pages already but now I'm working on finishing this.

I still have to do a double post and will do so tomorrow its been a busy few days.

I feel kind of meh about this one. Nothing particularly wrong with this I just feel like I could have used a lot more polish.

Last page of the Bridgman copys.

Also forgot to post yesterday so I will post twice today.

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

I really like the way this came out. there are some blocky unfinished areas but I like the way that the light came out.

My second to last Bridgman page.

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

So I tried a different brush and a technique with this one. Some of the texture in the brush looks good but I think it didn't work for the whole picture. So while I'll keep the brush I don't think I'll use it for people as much.

Some more cloth. Only a couple of more pages in the Bridgman book and then I'll move onto another anatomy book.

Monday, June 17, 2013

This came out really rough. I think that I should work on getting the figure down quicker and at a higher quality.

More clothes.

Sunday, June 16, 2013

I feel like this one could have used a bit more polish and then it would have been good. Everything is looking good and in the right spots it just needs to be refined and finished.

This final for the mermaid. I like the way this came out, there are some issues with the hair and I think that some parts of the anatomy are a bit rough, but the colors are good and most of the anatomy is good in spite of some rough spots.

A nice shot of the back. Some of it came out a little softer than I would have liked but other than that I like it.
I'm gonna start doing at least one painting a week so that I can get better and this is the first one. This is the work in progress and tomorrow I'll post the final.

Friday, June 14, 2013

I think that this came out a bit blotchy.  The transitions aren't smooth and I would have liked to get better definition in the anatomy.

Feet and drapery.

Thursday, June 13, 2013

Starting to get faster with this stuff I think. I still have a long way to go before I get to the quality and speed that I want but I'm moving in the right direction.
Lower leg and feet. Lots of feet.

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

A nice back and butt. Still trying to get faster and maintaining quality. I think that this came out good but could have been better.
Knees and legs.

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

More male muscles and this time I think I got the hang of it. I feel like its finally starting to click but I'm going to keep working to make sure that it sticks.
Legs and hip bones. Lots of em here and more to come.

Monday, June 10, 2013

A very quick portrait that I think came out alright for the time I had. Part of doing these hour long studies is to get faster and I think that I'm getting there. It's taking a lot longer than I would like but only a bit longer than I expected. Still progress is progress even at a snails pace.
Moving on to the but and the legs. Legs have always been a bit tricky for me particularly the lower part of the leg. Getting the knee to look attached properly and the arraignment of the calf muscles.

Also 300th post! I didn't do anything special for this one because I didn't notice it until today but I'll do something nice in October because that's when I started posting every day last year.

Sunday, June 9, 2013

Again male muscles gave me a mountain of trouble. I swear one of these days I will get them down. Some days I feel like my process to learning this stuff is just to bash my head against the wall until it falls down, its painful but bound to work eventually.

LAST PAGE OF HANDS! Whooooo. By this point I was tiered of doing hands but I think that I did learn a thing or two. My hands aren't perfect by any means but they have improved.

Saturday, June 8, 2013

I like how this one came out. while a few of the edges are pretty rough, over all this came out good.

Okay so tomorrow it will be the last page of hands and then I'll be moving on to the rest of the body.

Friday, June 7, 2013

So I think that while I'm getting the hang of this I need to get faster. Much faster. I don't think that something this simple should take me an hour.
Some fingers along with the hands. A couple of more pages like this.

Thursday, June 6, 2013

I really liked this model. She had a figure that reminded me of a model from the 40's or 50's, nice, soft, feminine curves. Her arm came out a bit wonky but other than that I like the way it came out.

A lot of hands. I've run out of things to say about them.
