Tried something new here and I think that the result came out a little soft looking. I might use this type of technique for a background elements but not for foreground elements, I do think that the colors came out good.
I painted the hair here, it might take another couple of hours to get the hair exactly the way I want but I think that this is headed in the right direction.

So I tried to draw in the areas of the shadow before going in and painting. I think the problem with that is that it takes up to much time for a thirty minute drawing so while I don't think I'll be doing that for these poses I think it could come in handy on longer drawings.
Started painting over the lines here. Focusing on the suit and the skin first. I also refined some areas of her face and painted her eyes. Next will be the hair followed by the various background elements.

A bit of an experiment here that I don't think worked out. I tried to give it a thick outline and then color it. I think that I might use this style in the future when I get a better tablet.
Spent quite a lot of time roughing in all the colors so this is about 5 or 6 hours of work. I like the way that this is turning out.

Despite having a slightly overexposed kind of look I think that the figure came out pretty good. I particularly like the secondary light source.
Threw in some flat colors to set up for the painting. I use the flat colors to set up the masks, this tends to take a while to do and looks unimpressive but saves a lot of time and effort in the long run.

I think that this came out pretty good. I didn't try any thing new here just kind of went for my normal style. Trying a new way of doing things takes more effort and I was feeling kind of tiered.
Kate Upton drawing and its going to be a painting and this is the start.

I did a bit more blocking in than I usually do. Working in solid colors and then blending in between them. I think that it came out good I just wish that had gotten the face a bit further.

Pretty much done. I got the background a bit further along and I put some glowey stuff around the eyes.

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

Trying out some different settings on the brush using the size jitter setting and some different ways of coloring. I think that part of it came out pretty good but I don't think that I would use this way of painting again though.
Smoothed out the muscles and added a background. I also refined some of the clothes.

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Starting to go back to the Pixelovey gesture drawing tool, I'm a bit rusty doing this but I think this came out good. I think I'll try out some different ways of painting with the last pose.
So I fixed the hands and started blocking in the muscles, although I think have may have over defined some of the arm muscles. I got a long way to go on this one.

So many hands. Bridgman breaks down the hand in a way that makes a lot of sense to me. His drawings and diagrams of the hand have helped me a lot over the years.
This is after a couple of hours. I chose this pose because it would show off the character better than some of the other angles. I think that over the next couple of hours on this I'll be focusing on anatomy and clothes more than anything else.

Arms and getting started on the hands.
Doing a painting of a thief from a fantasy world inspired by 1,001 Arabian Nights.
Some quick sketches of clothes and accessories for the thief.

Getting into the elbow and forearm here. A couple more of these then its back to doing drawings from life (or at least photos of life).
I evened out some of the skin tone and gave it a bit of back light to give him a more rounded feel.

More arms breaking down the different shapes of the muscles and how they fit together.
So I picked one of the thumbnails and decided to flesh it out a bit. This is after a few hours and its coming along, I have most of the muscles at least roughed in but I think I'm going to take this a bit further.

Thursday, April 18, 2013

Lots of arms and elbows in this.
Some shark monster things thumbnails trying to do quick thumbnails. I think that some of these came out okay.

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Lots of arms and arm bones.
some quick perspective studies about 20 - 30 min a piece. I need more practice with perspective so these might be a more regular occurrence.

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Shoulders and getting into the arms.
the mountain itself turned out okay but the flowers where kind of tricky. I tried painting them individually but that wasn't working so I tried to do make a brush to kind of speed things along but that didn't turn out very good. I think part of the problem was the brush that I made.

More torsos and getting into the back and hips.
The start of a painting of Mt. Rainier this is two hours in.
Got home from work a little later than I thought so this post is a little late. More torsos and rib cages.
Finished and I'm fairly happy with it. Not perfect but pretty good I liked the way that the fog and atmosphere on this one.

Neck muscles and bones and the start of some torsos.

A copy of a painting called Titans Grail by James Wolf. Two hours in.
So it was a long week and last night I went to bed thinking that I was forgetting something but was to tired to really remember what it was. After a good nights sleep (I'd forgotten how restful eight hours of pure sleep can be) I remembered that I hadn't updated my blog so to make up for it, two post today. Some more Bridgeman stuff moving onto the mouth and neck here.
It's still a little rough but not bad, I like the way that the sunlight came out.

Thursday, April 11, 2013

A few more heads and faces along with some ears and noses.
A copy of a river and some mountains. I don't remember where I found this painting but I liked the way that the sunlight peeks over the mountains.

Some childrens faces and some expressions.

This didn't come out as good as I had hoped it would. The building and some of the trees are are half finished. on the other had the snow and the sky came out pretty good so it wasn't a complete loss.

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

Doing copies like this is kind of boring but they do pay off. That said they are becoming almost unbearably boring and I'll probably go back to doing gesture drawings in a week or so.
Two hours into a painting of a winter landscape. I really spent a good chunk of time getting the perspective right on the little covered bridge so this isn't as far along as I would have liked but its showing some good things at the moment.

Monday, April 8, 2013

A couple more pages of heads to go and then I move on.
Final of Necessary Risk. I think this came out pretty good.

Sunday, April 7, 2013

A lot more heads and skulls.
A copy of Necessary Risks by James Wolf. This is the start of a four hour copy.

Saturday, April 6, 2013

Lots of heads here and not much else.
While it's a quick painting I'm happy with it for the most part. I would have liked to get some parts more finished but the overall feel is what I was going for.
